Emily was not originally involved with the pack at all. She had a rich upper class childhood, with a great background in school, even through college. She was a focused young lady, ready to jump into life and make a difference. She chose to be a surgeon after science class, when they began dissecting different animals for study. She was fascinated with the structure of life, and what made everything tick.
Her involvement with the pack came well after her years in medical school. She had just finished her residency, and moved to a more funded hospital with the prospect of researching new and innovative surgery techniques to save lives. While Emily wasn't the absolute best in her field, she made the list of preferred surgeons in the country for open heart surgery, and general trauma injuries.
She married when she was 30, it was on her birthday. On their way home to collect their things for a honeymoon, they were side-swiped by a van hauling a group of cartel members running from a rival biker gang. Caught in the confusion of it all, her husband Rich, kicked his window out and pulled his unconscious wife from the burning car. When he got her safely out, the cartel members shot him just as she was coming back to consciousness.
His body fell into her own, and they both remained on the road as a huge firefight broke out between the two organizations. She witnessed a miraculous evolution from man to wolf, as a local biker transformed into a beast to take out a few of the cartel. Others did the same, tearing them to shreds. When it was all said and done, a very frightened doctor was left at the wreckage because the authorities came.
Unable to truly speak on what it was she witnessed, Emily passed out before she could actually be questioned. Several weeks passed during her recovery, and she saw no trace of the men that had killed the cartel. She was beginning to wonder if it had been a side effect of her concussion.
After a month, Emily was finally released and allowed to go home. Her first night there, she was dragged from her bed and held at gun point by a few of the men she suspected were from the gang. Given the amount of news coverage on TV, it must have been easy to track her down.
She was forced to adhere to a particular code they all shared, and they explained the gravity of their situation and expressed, despite having guns drawn on her, sincere displeasure in having to meet her this way. Unfortunately fate had played a role in getting her involved, and if she refused to keep their secret safe, they were going to kill her.
Afraid for her life, she agreed to keep their secret safe, but asked how they intended to keep an eye on her. They explained she would be an affiliate, in time, and would serve as their surgeon and go to doctor when something happened. They also explained they would protect her like their own, if she just kept her mouth shut and showed some semblance of loyalty.
Four years has passed since this conversation, and Emily has kept her mouth shut. She's often called to visit to observe changes, diagnose health issues, to help with birthing, and generally does all the medical work for the club/pack. In return, she's given a stipend for her expertise, and protection from anyone who sees her as a potential target. It's suspected that she does this still, against her will, and that the only reason she's there is to stay alive. This timid personality is evident in how jumpy she is when she's around them. She often smells of fear, and has never truly trusted any of them, despite having known virtually all of them.
