Charlie is the eldest of seven children born to Cody and Sarah Allen in the little rural town of Thompson Falls, Montana. His father is the Sheriff of Thompson Falls and his mother teaches at the local high school. Growing up, life was mostly idyllic for him. When he wasn't causing trouble with friends around town he could often be found hunting elk or bear in the surrounding woods with his grandfather.
Starting in Charlie's teenage years his father noticed something was different about him. He unflinchingly reacted to provocations with brutality, was rebellious despite all attempts to rein him in, and could be exceedingly cunning when it came to getting what he wanted from people. Cody recognized the behavioral pattern because his father, a Korean War veteran, exhibited the same destructive personality traits that eventually led to him getting the death penalty for drunkenly shooting three men to death outside a bar.
In order to prevent his eldest son from going down a similar path he spent a lot of time with him and had Clint, Charlie's maternal grandfather, assist him in channeling Charlie's energies. Through rigorous work, physical training and mentoring they helped him develop a level of self-control and discipline they believed would keep him on the straight and narrow. Yet they knew despite their success that his true nature still lurked just beneath the surface.
Four whole years passed by without incident. Charlie enjoyed an active social life, was star quarterback on the local football team, and excelled academically. He was set to attend Montana State University on a full ride scholarship when his life completely unraveled.
Late one summer evening not long after his eighteenth birthday, Charlie and a few of his friends attended a party in the woods with some other graduating seniors. Everything was fine at first, but as the night wore on and the liquor flowed things started to get out of hand. When a classmate of his named Derek let a comment slip about his younger sister all the self-control he'd built up crumbled. Charlie waited two hours for Derek to head off into the woods to take a piss and when he did so he followed him, put a hand over his mouth to keep him quiet, and repeatedly sank his bowie knife deep into his chest until he stopped struggling.
As the life left his classmate's eyes the realization of what he'd done set in. He quickly came up with a plan to dispose of Derek's body and dragged him deep into the forest. What he didn't realize, however, was that he was being stalked the entire time. Right as he neared the edge of a small ravine he was going to roll Derek's corpse into he was ambushed by a wolf. A struggle ensued and even though he was severely injured during the resulting whirlwind of violence, he managed to drive the beast off before it could kill him. Too injured to crawl back to civilization, he used his boot laces as tourniquets and did his best to survive that first night.
The following morning a search party led by his father found him and Derek. Most assumed that they were both victims of a bear attack, but his old man knew better due to the vastly different wound patterns on Derek's body. In order to avoid his son going to prison for murder he lied on the official report and closed the case.
Not long after the attack Charlie went through his first change. With the realization that he was now something other than human setting in, he left home after a brief goodbye and hit the road. For two years he roamed the West, surviving on odds jobs here and there while coming to grips with his new nature. It wasn't until he ran into Drake by chance that he discovered there were more like him.
For the past six years he's been a patched member of the Road Wolves and owner of Denver County Guns. In that time he's developed a well-earned reputation as someone who is loyal yet whose brutal nature and callousness towards outsiders precludes him from ever holding a position that might require a diplomatic approach.
