Life is a cruel and demanding Mistress. For some that she shows favor life is but a breeze and easy street all the way through. Others.. it's a brutal bloody climb out of the lowest depths of living mortal hell over the bodies of those less fortunate. While this tale is somewhere in between I leave the judgement of the reader to decide. Caelen was born from unknown parents and subjected to many of the untold stories of the Los Angelos area foster care system. he had been placed in since birth you see and many a times in his later years he reflected he probably was some fuck up teenagers mistake tossed into the system to see if he ended up better then the parent themselves. He was a case of what happens when a boy bounces between the system and the foster parents sticking to neither surface. when nothing stands solid in ones life for more then a month or two at a time. When friends made disappear as quick as he could be yanked out for another placement a town or three or five away from the last. such a trauma heartens the heart. it turns it cold and makes it less then open to prevent further pains.

There was a million maybes.. thousands of unanswerable questions and hundreds of broken promises that paved that road. Ultimately though one might say it was a preparation for the days ahead. Like all kids he still had faith in people in how things could get better and how the world wasn't this cruel twisted torture chamber intent on causing as much pain as long as you let it do so. Through elementary he had probably passed through the better part of ten different schools before fifth grade. Some he would admit by his own issues. More then a few because he was tossed back by foster parents who didn't understand his history. excuses were never given to him nor were explanations it just happened people changed their minds or he was for lack of a better reason not what they were looking for. In middle school the number of foster placements seemed to decrease sharply and by the time he ran away in his junior year of high school there was only one. After dozens of placements in the years prior it was the last family he got stuck with that finally broke his spirit and beliefs in a better day. Sometimes people break and they just don't repair themselves.. and sometimes in that dark place they truly do find themselves. people can only take so much of a beating before they break after all and Caelen put up a hell of a fight before he broke.

Caelen gave up on other human beings that day. The day he left the "norm" behind to seek his own fortune amongst the other dredges of shit society. If people couldn't be used or they didn't somehow help him along his path he didn't bother with them. People couldn't be trusted they were only a ends to a means his past had made him aware of that. People and names were like mud. Blending and swirling in the sinkhole of life and having about the came concern given to them as one might a sand castle on a sandy beach with an approaching high tide. Drugs, Girls whose names couldn't be remembered.. even a few guys who had good intentions found themselves blown off as he let himself swirl down the drain. Until he met the wolf. Yes life is a cruel mistress.. but Fate is a arrogant prick and it was only a matter of time before something either killed him or shocked him back.

Edward Frost did that to Caelen. He took the foul mouth brat and showed him a vision of a real hell.. the kind without the flames were shit was stark and raw and his actions got called into order. Why? Caelen didn't know that but what he did know was the old fucker had a mean streak only a margin wider then Caelen's disregard for people. It caused Cael to begrudgingly respect the man as time went on. The details were best left unspoken but as much as Ed took from Caelen during their time together.. he left him with as good as a gift as he ever got.. The gift of the beast and a chance to find real family not just the kind of human bullshit of happy dad and mom.. couple of obnoxious siblings whom wait to fuck you over at any turn. Friends who prey on what makes you happy.. the kind that knocks your ass back into place when you fuck up and keeps your nose straight on the trail. course Ed didn't tell him where to find this.. he just said if Caelen kept moving he would find it one day. If he cut the stupid shit, Learned his place and some goddamn respect. Just as quick as he came Ed left a year later without so much as a goodbye. It was like once he made sure Caelen knew better then to say something stupid about his new self and a simple mention that eastish might not be an bad idea to start going one day he did his thing and was gone. The part that irked Cael the worst was.. the man showed him more in that year then a lifetime else where. So he started drifting from the streets of L.A. east bound. It's been Three years since he met Ed.. two since the man left and his adventures and stories just compile.. but if there was one damn thing he never mentioned it was his gifted nature... and damn if it wasn't the best damn gift he ever did get. Sometimes the best stories are those written in those times no one is aware anything even happened and like all things past. You can't change them once their known.. but the future is unwritten. As he rolls into Denver.. the city seems no different then the dozen or so he left behind. But nothing is how it looks and maybe for once that is a blessing.
